31/07/08 - Midweek season comes to an end

The midweek season has come to a close and it is a shame to see the team at the foot of the table with only one win to their names, Matt Folkes has performed admirably this season and shown some good leadership skills learning a lot from being in charge, he has been backed-up by many people this year and would like to extend his thanks to all.

There have been some fine performances with the bat, Marcus Mears scoring 60 at Finmere early in the season, Jonny Cater with a simply brilliant 172 not out against Wicken at home and in the same game Nick Stanger scoring 60 not out to take the side to a Gawcott midweek record total, record opening partnership and record partnership for any wicket.  Unfortunately after clarification from the league it was not enough to break the midweek league record but it was close.

The bowling has been steady and in a season where wickets were hard to come by it is a credit to those who took multiple wickets throughout the year.  The fielding has been good at times, some not so good but on a whole the boys did well to hang onto as many catces as they did as well as the commited dives and slides in the outfield that saved the odd run or two.

It only leaves me to say, well done boys, its not been an easy year by any standards but you can all be proud of what we did achieve this year, and next year in a lower league we WILL be more competitive.

BRING ON MIDWEEK CRICKET 2009

02/06/2008 - VICTORY AT LAST!!!!!

What was horribly looking like a season with no wins for the club has been abolished, Wednesday 2nd July 2008 saw the club register it's first win of the season.  In the return fixture against Wicken the midweek side smashed an amazing 245-0 from their allotted overs and then in reply restricted Wicken to 147-6; Jonny Cater in only his second appearance of the year top scored with a magnificant 172 not out and was superbly assisted by Nick Stanger, also making his second appearance of the year scored a brilliant 60 not out.

This will come as a major boost to the club and will no doubt give each and every player a huge injection of confidence going into the second half of the season, the saturday game against Croughton is a chance for the team to follow suit and notch a first win in the SNCL, whereas the midweek game against Great Horwood on 09/06/2008 will have an air of expectation about it.  Good luck to both captains and their teams respectively and I for one can't wait to stuff the boys from Croughton and turn this season around.

30/06/2008 - Club BBQ at the Cuckoo's Nest

After the home game against Croughton next saturday there will be a BBQ held at the Cuckoo's Nest in Gawcott.  The cost is £5 per head and everybody is welcome, players, partners, opposition and well wishers, not to mention any new players that wish to get involved in the team.  The game is likely to finish around 8pm but all are welcome to the Richard Roper playing fields beforehand to cheer the team on towards the first victory of the season; the match signals the halfway point in the season and all the players would welcome the support, play begins at 2pm but players will be arriving at approximately 1.30pm.  Hopefully you can all make it to the game in the afternoon and especially the BBQ afterwards where it will be a chance to swap cricket tales and sink a few bevvies as well.

23/06/2008 - I was watching the dog!!!

There have been hundreds, if not thousands, of excuses used by each and every cricketer to ever drop a catch, but the prize must go to Ashley Griffiths who, on the 21/06/2008, claimed he was watching a woman and more pointedly the dog she was taking for a walk, instead of the small round shaped ball of red leather which was very generously dollied up to him at short mid-wicket by a Hanslope CC batsman.

The excuse included a very good description of the dog "being walked into by the woman" and thus providing the young GHCCC spinner with a moment of concern for the poor dog.  A post match interview with the aforementioned pooch, who gets an assist in Hanslope's victory, suggests that he will continue to go for walks on a Saturday afternoon when Hanslope are batting in an attempt to put off the opposition's fielders.

16/06/2008 - Captain Colin Piggott wins the toss again.

In the game against Evenley 'A', Colin managed to win the toss for a 5th consecutive game, he really has honed his sixth sense in coin toss calling.  Colin is giving his side the best chance to succeed and long may this run continue as it is only a matter of time before he and the side undoubtedly put together a run of victories that will see them move clear of the relagtion zone and guarantee Division 2 cricket at Gawcott again next season.

05/06/2008 - Website is launched!!!

We are entering into the 21st Century and starting a new website, the aim of this is to raise the awareness of the club and to bring in new players of all abilities and ages to complement what we already have at the club and to improve the stature of the club.

We currently have 1 saturday side in the SNCL, however we would like to return to having 2 sides competing within the leagues as we have done for many years, we have the infrastructure to support 2 sides and would very much like to produce an environment that pushes local cricketers to suceed into better players through the competivness of interclub achievments.

Our midweek team is finding life tough at the top, but will continue to play with the upmost commitment and enthusiasm this wonderful game of cricket instills.  Our new midweek captain Matthew Folkes is learning his skills and will undoubtebly take the team forward to bigger and better times as he grows more accustomed to his role.
